Vilma A. Thompson, 88, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 in Valley Senior Living on Columbia.

Vilma Adeline Thompson, daughter of Louis and Agnes (Machal) Zak was born January 24, 1934 in Grand Forks, ND. She attended rural schools in Minnesota and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN in 1952. In the summer of 1952, she attended Mayville State College which prepared her to teach at rural schools in North Dakota. Vilma also worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant at United Hospital of Grand Forks.

In 1955, she married Gordon E. Thompson. They lived near Thompson, ND where they raised their three children, Julie, Guy and Laurie. Vilma later moved to Grand Forks where she resided for many years.

Survivors include her children, Julie (Ron Kjemhus) Thompson, Grand Forks, Guy (Christal) Thompson, Pearland, Texas, and Laurie Thompson, Edgewater, NJ; grandchildren, Patrick (Jing) Thompson, Dallas, TX.  Andrew Thompson, Houston, TX.; brother, Marvin (Cora) Zak, East Grand Forks, MN.

Vilma was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel (Zak) Sirek, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2022 at Walle Lutheran Church near Thompson, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Walle Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Valley Senior Living Chaplaincy, Walle Cemetery Fund, or the Circle of Friends Humane Society.
