Todd Leroy Thompson (56) of Grand Forks, ND was called to his heavenly home on January 11th, 2022 at Altru Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Todd was born March 20, 1965 to Anita Louise Wetzel and Robert Lloyd Thompson. The eldest of four children, Todd enjoyed playing football, playing the trombone, and poking fun with his siblings. He was most comfortable; however, simply being at home. He later welcomed two step-sisters and three younger siblings to his blended family.

Todd was a graduate of North Central of Barnes, Rogers, ND in 1983. He participated in track which later came in handy for a 20+ mile hike home from Lake Ashtabula to the farm in Dazey or so the story goes. Todd was known by many to be the nicest, most genuine, person in his class. He attended University of North Dakota (UND) where he was an active member of then fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon. His interest in music and broadcast communication led him to Thief River Falls to pursue education for a career in radio.

Todd truly had a voice for radio and loved 80’s music. He put these passions into motion as a disc jockey often impersonating the likes of Wolfman Jack, former teachers, and other celebrities. His family’s favorite memories include Todd’s musical trivia, extensive knowledge of music, and his love for the Beatles, Wham, Billy Idol and everything in between.

Todd was a family man. Beginning as a set up by her sister Lori, Todd was introduced and later married the love of his life, Lisa Vollbrecht. They were united in marriage on July 15th, 1995. They first made their home in Inver Grove Heights, MN and later made their forever home in Grand Forks, ND. Together the couple raised Todd’s greatest pride, their three children. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his kids at hockey & soccer games, Tai Kwon Do,  figure skating exhibitions, or SPA musical performances. This joy was only matched when he became a grandfather to one Kami.

Known as “Todd-Father,” Todd was celebrated by his nieces and nephews. He often shared his pearls of wisdom for life, how to be a good person, and the occasional dare that led his mom’s neighbor to call him in as a potential peeper for hiding Easter eggs for those same children.

Todd was a man of faith. Much like radio, Todd had a voice for scripture. He was involved in his faith communities serving as lector of the word or recording Sunday services for church. In times of strife, Todd was the go-to guy for questions of God, loss, or a simple word of encouragement during a time of transition. Now his family can be assured that with every breath we take, Todd will be watching us.

Todd is survived by his wife Lisa (Vollbrecht) Thompson; sons Brett Thompson & Jay Thompson; daughter Jennifer Thompson and granddaughter Kami Thompson. He’s also survived by siblings Keely (Mark) Sabinash, Dawn (Ben) Schoeberl, Troy (Chris Evenson) Thompson, Kathy Thompson, Renee (Royce) Nelson, Rebecca Lawler, Sarah (Courtney) Gratton, Brian Anderson, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Todd is preceded in death by his mother, Anita (Wetzel) Anderson; father, Robert (Bob) Lloyd Thompson; brother, Michael Robert Anderson and his niece/goddaughter, Jennifer Michelle Hildebrant.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Christ The King Free Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
