Sandra L. (Dolmseth/Thorsen) Akers, 84, died on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Valley TCU on Columbia Rd. in Grand Forks, ND.
Sandra Leone Dolmseth was born April 14, 1938 to Margaret Ida Peterson Dolmseth and Leonard Conard Dolmseth. She attended grade schools in Albert Lea and Austin, MN. Sandra and her family moved to Grand Forks, ND where she entered the 7th grade at South Junior High in 1950. She graduated from Central HS in 1956. She entered UND in 1956 and became an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She married her high school sweetheart, James David Thorsen in 1958 and they became the proud parents of her three sons, James Jr., Randall Scott and Gregory Paul. After Jim's passing she moved to Macon, GA and to Bossier City, LA where she married Benny Akers.
Sandra was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of the United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. She was an active member in Masonic temple as the spouse of the Potentate's aide to Olaf Thorsen. She had many dear friends in Grand Forks and participated in many social clubs and book clubs. She was a dedicated hockey mom and enjoyed cooking for the boy’s many friends over the years. Sandra loved to entertain and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake on Grace Lake.
Sandra returned to Grand Forks in 2020 and resided at Valley Senior Living where she re-connected with old friends and made many new friends. She will be forever in our hearts and missed beyond measure.
She is survived by her sons, James (Mary), Randy and Greg (Tammie); stepdaughter Sandy Rosendale; her 7 grandchildren, Tyler, Katie (Britton) Spader, Cassondra, Nicholas, Megan, Hannah and Haley (Danys) Chartrand; and 5 great-grandchildren, Knox, Easton, Cain, Gemma and Veda; and siblings, Gayle Miller, Dick (Janette) Dolmseth, Cindy Chester, and Dan (Joyce) Dolmseth. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands James and Benny.
Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
