Richard K. Snortland, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND after a battle with Parkinson’s.

Rich (Dick, Richard) was born a twin on April 6, 1935, in Sharon, ND, son of Olaus and Ethel (Kloster).  He was raised in Sharon where he helped on the family farm and, along with his twin brother, kept his mom very busy.  Rich graduated from the University of North Dakota with an accounting degree. He then moved to California to begin his life-long passion in accounting.  Rich served as an auditor with the Army Nat’l. Guard for three years, travelling the country.

Rich had an illustrious career as a CPA, culminating in his position of Sr. Partner at Snortland, Fernandez, Brown, & Gruver in Sacramento.   He retired in 2003, but his life in numbers continued as he provided financial/investment advice as a mentor to many.  

A quiet, kind soul, Rich cared deeply for the suffering and the underdog. He enjoyed music, home cooked meals, hiking, and visiting with friends and relatives.  A man of deep faith, he was a long-time member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sacramento, where he was active as Head Usher and volunteered his talents in matters of finance.

Rich is survived by: sister-in-law, Edith, niece, Karin (Donna), nephew Karl, great nephews, Chad (Haley), Eric, and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert (Bob). 

A funeral service for Rich will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 20, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND with Pastor Terry Hagensen officiating. Visitation one hour prior.  Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Sharon, ND.  Memorials preferred to Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND.
