Rev. Dale was born on December 2, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Arthur and Reba (Robinson) Emery. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1962 with a BSEd degree and from the Saint Paul School of Theology in 1975. Dale was first licensed to preach in The Methodist Church in June, of 1960 where he served for 11 years as a part-time pastor and school teacher, before attending seminary in 1971. He was ordained into the United Methodist ministry in 1972. He pastored churches in Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He retired from ministry in 2004, but continued part-time parish ministry until his final retirement on June 30, 2019, marking 59 years in ministry. In 1956, Dale married Rebecca Hall. The couple divorced in 1979. On September 24, 1988, Dale married Helen Wiegandt Ertman in Drayton, North Dakota. Helen was a devoted wife who encouraged her husband in his ministry. She was active in UMW groups in churches where Reverend Dale served as a pastor. Rev. Dale is survived by his wife, Helen of Grand Forks; daughters, Robin (Dan) Holsteen of Colorado Springs, CO, and Heidi (Tim) James of Mankato, MN; sons, Joe (Ricki) Emery of Bel Aire, KS, John (Tom) Emery of Kansas City, MO, and Trent (Lisa) Ertman of Grand Forks; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Bev) Emery of Rio Vista, CA, and David “Butch” (Johanna) Emery of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Reba Emery and one grandson, Devin Emery. When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love. You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it’s time to travel on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. And then when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with “Welcome Home.”
