Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Thompson passed away on March 9, 2023 at the Grand Forks hospital after a brief illness at the age of 87.
Mary (Betty) was born in Crookston, MN on February 24, 1936, the daughter of Gladys (Moan) and Earl Sullivan. She had a twin brother William (Billy) and an older sister Connie. After graduating from Crookston high school she worked several jobs including at the Sunshine Biscuit Company in Minneapolis, a ski season in Sun Valley, ID, and at the Hotel Roosevelt in New York City. One of her favorite jobs was writing commercials for KROX radio in Crookston.
She married Gene C. Thompson in 1958 in Crookston. They lived on a farm north of East Grand Forks and had three children: Bart, Clay and Jill. She was divorced in 1981 and went to work for Target setting up displays for 21 years before retiring.
Betty enjoyed sewing and making crafts. She was an avid reader and shared her passion for books, movies and theater with her family and friends.
She is survived by two children, Clay (Janell) Thompson, East Grand Forks, MN and Jillian Thompson, Bemidji, MN, grandchildren Cyle (Abby Geriox) Thompson, Jamestown, ND and Chantel (Andrew) Carlson, Phoenix, AZ, sisters-in-law Sharen Thureen, Charlotte Sullivan, Joann Markland and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son, Bart, brother Billy, and sister Connie.
