Leonard O. Lien

Leonard O. Lien, 90, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Devils Lake, ND and Sarles, ND, died Friday, April 26, 2019 in his home.

Leonard was born December 22, 1928 in Sarles, ND, the son of Ole and Alice (Olson) Lien. He was raised and educated in Sarles and graduated from high school there in 1946.

Leonard married Carol Jean Barker on December 26,1950 at Devils Lake. They lived in Sarles where Leonard was a lifelong farmer. They moved to Devils Lake in 1980. Carol Jean died on September 29, 1994.

Leonard married Doris Oakland on December 19, 1995 at Devils Lake. They moved to Grand Forks in 2015.

Leonard was an amazing grandpa. He enjoyed baseball, travel, dancing, playing golf, playing cards and pretty much anything that would involve being with other people.

Survivors include his children, Deborah Lien, Kathie (Roger) Voth, and Shelley (Jim) Holmstrom; his grandchildren Luke (Nicole) Voth and their children Adrianna, Lily, Hayden; Jared (Sarah) Voth and their children Paxon, Evie, Lucie, Josiah; Becky (Cory) Hanson; Elizabeth (Paul) Johnson Jr. and their children Thomas, Bailey; and Martha (Chuck) Meranda and their children Timothy, Kiley, Tyler, Blake, William, C.J.; his brother Kenneth Lien and brothers-in-law Duane Barker and Larry Barker. Leonard is also survived by his wife Doris and her children Gary (Doreen) Oakland, Gloria (Jim) Gebur, Deb (Steve) Hill, Steve Oakland, Wayne (Freda) Oakland and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Carol Jean, his granddaughter Kaila Voth and his sister Ruth States.

Leonard's family would like to thank Altru Hospice staff, especially Nurse Brittany, for the care and compassion provided to him in his home. Our family is forever grateful.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
