“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15). Karen Lynette Dalager was born on May 13, 1946, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Arthur and Helena (nee Johnson) Moe. She was baptized as an infant at Satersdal Lutheran Church near Thief River Falls and confirmed her baptismal faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She lived throughout her life in the forgiveness and mercy of God for her in Christ Jesus, who has paid the penalty for all our sins.
Karen was joined together in marriage to Bruce Jerome Dalager on September 16, 1967, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They were blessed by God with one son, Nathan, and two daughters, Bethany and Rachel. She served in music ministry by singing, playing the piano and organ, and leading church choirs; and she shared her love of music with countless students throughout her piano teaching career of more than fifty years. Karen was active in the life of Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and in the music community of the greater Grand Forks area for the last forty years.
God blessed Karen’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, church, work, and in the community. Finally, on October 30, 2022, God took her home to rest in the arms of Jesus as she awaits the resurrection of the dead.
Karen is remembered by her son, Nathan (Amy) Dalager of Argyle, Minnesota; by her daughters Bethany (Peter) Haugen of Chatfield, Minnesota, and Rachel (Tom) Gillen of Fargo, North Dakota; by her grandchildren, Aleithia (Gideon) Ripley, Adam Dalager, Isaiah Haugen, Elizabeth Gillen, Ellen Dalager, Janoah Haugen, Elias Haugen, Josiah Gillen, Charlotte Dalager, and Veronica Gillen; by her brother Randy Moe of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her brothers and sisters in Christ at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Grand Forks; and by a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Art and Helena, by her sister Arlette Kompelien, and by her brother-in-law Everett Kompelien.
The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, 3426 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, North Dakota, with visitation one hour prior to the service and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, at the church. Burial will follow at Satersdal Lutheran Cemetery near Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Memorials for Karen may be given to AFLC World Missions and to Thursday Music Club Scholarship Fund.
