Eddie D. Nelson, 63, Grand Forks, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 20, 2022 due complications of COPD and congestive heart failure.
Eddie Dale Nelson, the son of Dale Gerald Nelson and Helen Joyce (Torgerson) Nelson was born in Grand Forks on February 3, 1959. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks including Red River High School. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and often reminisced of childhood memories. Ed was married for 27 years to Julie (Schick) Nelson and welcomed two children (Amber and Lee) during that time. In 2012 he reconnected with his childhood friend, Yvonne Kilgore and remained with her until his passing. He worked in the family business, Nelson Masonry for his entire career. His proudest professional achievements include helping rebuild Grand Forks following the flood of 1997 and the interior masonry of Englestad Arena. Through his leadership, Nelson Masonry extended into neighboring states including Minnesota and Montana. The success of Nelson Masonry would not be possible without the leadership of his father, Dale and the partnership of his brother, Danny. Masonry was a family trade and Ed was proud to pass it on to his son, Lee.
Eddie enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, card games and working on his 1967 Mustang. But his most cherished moments were with his family and grandchildren.
Eddie is survived by his mother, Helen, Grand Forks; Yvonne Kilgore, his children, Lee Nelson (Rachel), Moorhead, MN, and Amber Nelson (Caleb Paulson), Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Keagan, Kolter, and Hailey; siblings, Lori Bjerk (Dean), Billie Jo Bayne (Art), Oslo, MN, Darcy Berg, Stephen, MN, and Danny Nelson, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Nelson, and a brother, Chris Nelson.
