Yvonne Lois Herzog, 72, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at her home in Grand Forks, ND.
Yvonne was born May 25, 1946, in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Raymond & Vivian (Moulton) Brown. She grew up and attended school in Erskine where she graduated high school. She earned a nursing degree in Thief River Falls, MN.
She married Larry W. Herzog on December 13, 1966, in Sisseton, SD in the Grace Lutheran Church. For the next 20 years she accompanied Larry, as he was in the Air Force and was stationed in various countries and states. She especially enjoyed shelling on the beaches of Panama, the people of Germany and the Air Force families that we knew in England. After Larry’s retirement, Yvonne worked as an LPN at Altru Hospital for 20+ years. They raised 2 children, Larry Jr. and Rebecca while making their home in Grand Forks. After being diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease she started dialysis and in 2009 she received a living donor kidney from son’s mother in-law, Wanda Niess. The following 7 years she was able to live and enjoy life, shopping, travelling, card making, wood working projects and making winter hats. In 2016 her transplanted kidney was rejected, partially due to diabetes. For the next 2+ years she was on 3 different dialysis programs and was finally able to do dialysis at home for over a year. Diabetes and circulation in her legs got worse and she made the decision to stop dialysis as she was unable to walk.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Larry (Elizabeth) Herzog Jr. of Valley City, Rebecca Waters of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Timothy, Thomas, Amanda, Theodore and Gabriel; brother, Donald (LaVonne) Brown of Oklee, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Michael Waters.
