William Arthur (Bill) Roberts, 60, died Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, in a Grand Forks hospital following a brief illness. Despite physical and developmental challenges, Bill enjoyed a full and active life with his family and wonderful caregivers until the time of his sudden death from heart issues.
Bill was born Aug. 8, 1962 in Bismarck to Karl and Rose Roberts and resided there with his parents and sisters, Robin and Deborah, until moving with the family to Dickinson in the early 1980s when his father took a job as postmaster in Dickinson. He lived with his family in Dickinson until moving to an assisted living facility in Fargo when he needed more care than his family could provide. From there, William moved around a bit throughout North Dakota until he found his home in Grand Forks. William was supported by REM, LISTEN, Community Options, and Grand Forks Growth and Support Center where he was an avid Special Olympics participant and won many awards for bowling and his fundraising for bowling. He was an avid sports enthusiast with college and professional teams, specializing in the Golden State Warriors. He was also on many committees to better support people with disabilities and help advocate for them. William was a sweet soul whom will be dearly missed by many in the community he lived.
William is survived by his sisters Robin (Scooter) Pursley and Deborah Roberts of Bismarck, his nephew Glenn (Michaela) Pursley of Platte City, Mo., and his niece, Dr. Emily Pursley of Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Karl, and mother, Rose.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown, S.D., at his request.
