Wayne Alan Berntson

September 18, 1948 — August 20, 2019

Wayne Berntson, 70, Grand Forks, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

Wayne, the son of Wallace & Ida (Anderson) Berntson, was born in Kenmare, ND on September 18, 1948. Wayne & his family moved to Mohall, ND where he inadvertently sat behind a sassy blonde in his 6th grade class. Wayne was smitten. Patty Hanson became his jelly to her peanut butter.

Wayne & Patty were married February 17, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mohall, ND. Wayne and Patty moved to Fargo where he began his career with John Deere. He was a long time Parts Manager at Grand Forks Equipment. When he retired in 2012, he had been with the John Deere brand for around 38 years.

Wayne & Patty raised two girls, Missy & Liz. He never complained about all the women in the family, but he was thankful when his son-in-laws arrived to even the score. Wayne was the happiest watching NASCAR, Sioux hockey or camping surrounded by family & friends. He loved being a grandpa to Maxwell & Oliver Johnson. His quick wit & grumpy disposition is going to be missed by family and friends alike.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patty of Grand Forks; daughters, Missy (Bob) Krigbaum of Grand Forks, and Liz (Ryan) Johnson, West Fargo; grandchildren, Maxwell & Oliver Johnson; sister, Karen (Dan) Laakso; sister-in-law, Mary (Dennis) Peterson; mother-in-law, Gloria Hanson, one niece and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Lloyd Hanson, and sister-in-law, Barbara Martin.

Celebration for Wayne will be held from 6-9 pm on September 6, 2019 at the North Club lounge at the Ralph Engelstad Arena, Grand Forks. No funeral, no burial, no fuss. Please wear your favorite UND hockey gear.
