Wally E. Weiss

Wally E. Weiss, age 81, resident of rural Manvel, died on Friday, August 30th at Altru Hospital.

 Wally was born April 22, 1943, to Alfred and Mae (Norton) Weiss in Grand Forks ND. He grew up attending school in Grand Forks and married Janice (Haugen) on April 18, 1964, at Middle Grove Lutheran Church, where he became lifelong member. 

 Wally worked as a switchman/brakeman for Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads for 42 years. He was an avid horseman. His once in a lifetime horse was Reb (Johnny Rebel), who he used for speed events in the 1960s and 1970s. Wally’s sportsmanship was especially notable. He was a loving grandfather that made each one of his grandkids feel special and loved and that they were his favorite.

 Wally leaves behind his best friend and wife of 60 years, his children Mark (Karen), Michelle Koplin, and JoDee (Johnny) Hass, grandchildren Nicolas (Sacha) Weiss, Jordan Weiss, Jenae (Kris) Koplin, Weston Koplin, Jacob Hass, and Joseph Hass, and great-grandchildren Norah and John. He survived by his brothers, Gary and Don, many nieces and nephews, railroad friends, and horsemen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kay (Dan) Krell.

 Wally will be remembered for his kind heart and quick wit. CHA CHA CHA!!

Visitation will take place at Amundson Funeral Home on Friday, September 6 from 5:00-6:30PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30PM. A Funeral Service will take place at Middle Grove Lutheran Church in rural Mekinock on Saturday, September 7 at 10:30AM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Middle Grove Lutheran Cemetery immediately following the service.
