Vernon L. Brevik, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on December 20, 2024, in his hometown of Thompson, North Dakota. Born on July 5, 1937, Vernon lived a life full of dedication, service, and love.
Vernon's educational journey began in Thompson, where he completed high school before continuing his studies at Mayville State Teachers College and later at the University of North Dakota. His commitment to education led him to a career in teaching, where he imparted knowledge to many students for several years. Following his tenure in education, Vernon took a position in maintenance at United and Altru Hospitals, showcasing his knack for hands-on work.
In addition to his professional achievements, Vernon served honorably in the United States Army, a testament to his courage and commitment to his country. After his military service, he found fulfillment in roles that allowed him to engage with his community and contribute to the well-being of others.
Vernon's personal passions were evident in the hobbies he pursued. He had a profound love for downhill skiing, often sharing this joy with family and friends. An accomplished carpenter, Vernon took pride in building homes and grain elevators, showcasing his skill and craftsmanship. He enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, a symbol of his adventurous spirit. His lake home on Red Willow Lake was a cherished getaway where he created countless memories with loved ones, either relaxing on the deck or enjoying the tranquility of the pontoon.
Vernon was united in marriage to Bette Russell. To this union two children were born, Brian and Gary. Vernon and Bette later divorced. Vernon met and later married beloved wife, Gloria Gunville, on May 23, 1979, in Grand Forks, ND. Together they shared many adventures and built a life filled with family memories and treasured experiences. Vernon and Gloria lived and worked in Copper Mountain CO for many years, before retiring to Thompson.
Vernon is survived by his wife Gloria, sons, Brian Brevik and Gary (Tina) Brevik; brother, Allen Brevik; grandchildren: Brittany (Eddy) and Darian (Jami), along with his great-grandsons Walter and Jaxyn.
Vernon was predeceased by his siblings, Marvin, Adeline, Vivian, Lorene, Doris, and Carol and Dennis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
