Truman A. Vigen

January 8, 1935 — June 20, 2019

Truman Ardell Vigen, 84, Grand Forks, ND and formerly of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Valley 4000, Prairieview Neighborhood surrounded by his family.

 Truman was born January 8, 1935 at Bygland, MN, the son for Arne and Amelia (Torgerson) Vigen. He was baptized and confirmed at Bygland Lutheran Church and graduated from 8th grade at the Bygland school. At the age of 15, Truman moved with his family to Trail, MN where he helped on the family farm. Shortly thereafter, they moved to East Grand Forks wherehe held numerous jobs until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1957.  He was honorably discharged due to hearing loss.

 He married Elaine Anderson on September 14, 1958 in Crookston, MN. They lived briefly in Grand Forks, making their home in East Grand Forks, MN. He worked for Jenson’s Body shop which he later purchased in 1961 and changed the name toTruman’s Body Shop, which he owned and operated. He retired and closed his body shop due to illness in 1973.

 In Truman’s younger days, he enjoyed tinkering with almost anything that was mechanical, waxing his cars in the nearby park, going for rides in the country, listening to “old” country music and target practicing with his family. He loved being Grandpa always looking forward to their visits and spoiling them with pop and candy.  In his last few years, he just enjoyed spending time with family and friends reminiscing about the “olden” days.  

 Survivors include his children, Trudy (Mike) Soli, East Grand Forks, Truman Jr. (Pam), Grand Forks, and Lori (Wyman) Larson, East Grand Forks; grandchildren, Jason (Amber) Soli, Nicole (Nathan) Blair, Tyler (Jessica) Soli, Haley (Nate) Saye, Stacy (Jay) Wallace, Ashley (Dylan) Olson; great grandchildren,Nolan, Addison, Asher, and Harper Blair; Lucy and Henry Soli; Landen Vigen; Theavian and Imanela Saye; Madison and Oliver Wallace;  Easton, Corbin and Cullen Olson; special sister-in-laws, June Seng and Marilyn Coss; and close, long-time friend, Jim Carvieau.

 Truman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine of 40 years, parents; sisters, Aldene Hegge and Gwen Langei.

Pallbearers, at his request, will be Jason Soli, Tyler Soli, Bradley Seng, Brian Seng, Kip Langei and Troy Cariveau.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his granddaughters; Nicole Blair, Stacy Wallace, Ashley Olson and Haley Saye and his 14 Great Grandchildren.  

 Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bygland Cemetery.
