A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on July 15, 2018 at the age of 61.
He was born Sept 24, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio. Thom was the third child born to William and Ethel Sherwood. His early years were spent in Columbus until he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1974.
He devoted his life to helping others throughout his military career, also as a volunteer firefighter, a paramedic, and cardiac catheterization tech. In 2002 he graduated from MCP Hahnemann in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a Physician Assistant. At the time of his passing he was working at Asthma Allergy and Immunology in Midland, Michigan. Thom truly enjoyed the people he worked with throughout his life.
Thom enjoyed his hobby farms located in Emerado, ND and Hope, MI. He enjoyed alpacas and tractors. He had a fabulous sense of humor.
His unwavering devotion and loyalty to family extended to his work and volunteer experiences as well. In 1976 he met and married Cathy Cline (nee Pariseau) on Grand Forks Air Force Base. They raised four children in Emerado, ND before separating in 1996. In 1997 he met Toni Lagalo. Thom and Toni made life together the past 20 yrs in Michigan.
Thom was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Nick and Larry. He is survived by his children Barbara, Gina (Aaron), Becky (Gary), Billy (Brekka); grandchildren Tommy, Maddi, Jayden, Elizabeth, Addy, Will, Bristol and Owin; great granddaughter Taelor; sisters Julie (Amy), Maggi (Ron); nephew Ed (Jennifer); niece Korri.; great nephews William and Alan; great nieces Kenna and Elizabeth. Thom is survived by many other relatives and dear friends who all held a piece of his heart.
Thom had an extremely generous heart. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org), Foster Closet of Michigan (www.fosterclosetofmichigan.org) or the charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
