Thomas Lee Newcomb

September 4, 1952 — August 12, 2018

Thomas Lee Newcomb, 65, returned to his heavenly home on August 12 after a valiant fight with cancer. He was reaching for the Lord’s hand in his final moments, saying how beautiful it was and how many people were there waiting for him. The Lord took his hand and took his pain. His wife, Nancy, who fought that battle with him every minute was right at his side, along with his four daughters when he took his last breath here on this earth and entered eternity with his Savior, Jesus.

Tom was born to Calvin and Concetta Newcomb on September 4th, 1952 in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in New York, Florida, and many places in between as his Dad was a lineman and moved often. He learned adventure at a young age. In 1962 the family settled in Mayville, ND where he graduated from Mayville High School in 1970.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps upon his graduation from Mayville College. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy Rosholt. On a sweet, snowy day of December 4th, 1976 he married his best friend. Their beautiful story was just beginning.

The adventure continued through his time in the Marines. He fought many battles as a RECON Marine and was a hero to many. Once he became a Dad, he knew where his mission field was. In 1980 he left the Marine Corps, moved to Buxton, ND and started his business of Newcomb Apiaries.  He started working for American Crystal in 1991 and stayed with the company until 2017 when he retired as the Agronomy Manager of the Drayton factory. Throughout the years his family grew along with laughter and memories. The thing about Tom is that deep down, he was always a Marine, protecting, leading and caring for people. The gentle giant impacted so many people’s lives in the most humble and quiet of ways.

Tom had many hobbies and through reading and researching he mastered them all.  He especially enjoyed the outdoors and all that it had to offer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran where he served as a Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, and council member.

Tom’s biggest and best joy was his wife, girls, ‘sons’ and grandkids. His whole face would smile and his bright blue eyes would glisten when they were around; crawling up on their Papa and learning the best lessons life has to give. They were his pride and joy…and now his forever legacy.

Tom is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Newcomb; his daughters, Heather (Jeff) Felton (Miles, Sydnee), Kelly (Kyle) Ihry (Kadence, Kai), Jenny (Timothy) Curry (Trinity, Tommy, Tegan, Titus), Emily (Chris) Eisenbeisz (Vera, Anna); his mom, Concetta Newcomb; sister, Rebecca (James Gray); brother-in-law, Gene (Jean) Rosholt; sister-in-law, Patsy (Kim) Hobeck and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad, Calvin Newcomb; father-in-law, Sidney Rosholt and mother-in-law Geneva Rosholt.
