Terrance "Terry" "TR" Magnuson, 92 of Grand Forks died Thursday June 20, 2019 at 4000 Valley Square-Woodside Village, Grand Forks.
Terrance Robert Magnuson, the son of Eric and Hazel (Nohe) Magnuson was born December 30, 1926 at Henning, Minnesota. He grew up and attended schools in Henning and graduated from Henning High School. He entered the service and served as a pilot in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He married Margaret Brown on August 10, 1954 in Sisseton, South Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks, then East Grand Forks, and then in Grand Forks again. In later years they spent summers at the lake home on Big Elbow Lake near Waubun, Minnesota and winters in Cape Coral, Florida. They moved back to Grand Forks in 2016. Terry began his career in sales for the Midwest Company and later established Magnuson Equipment Company in Grand Forks. He purchased a majority interest in Ashland Industries in the early 1960's. They manufactured farm scrapers and land levelers along with other products. He established Viking Snowmobiles in 1966 and was President through 1976. He started Westgate Motors in 1976 in Grand Forks which later became Westgate Marine and owned it until 2013. He purchased Warroad Estates Marina in 1989 which is still in the family today. He was involved in many other businesses throughout his career also.
Terry had many hobbies which included flying his Cessna 210 airplanes, boating in Minnesota and Florida, snowmobiling, golfing, and almost anything else outdoors. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, first in Grand Forks and later in Cape Coral. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Moose.
Terry is survived by his wife Margaret, Grand Forks, children, Teresa Herk, Phoenix, AZ, Cheryl Jorgenson, Wildomar, CA, Eric Magnuson, Grand Forks, Steve Magnuson (Kristi), Grand Forks, and Kevin Magnuson, Warroad, MN, grandchildren, Angela Hagen, Nathan Herk, Kristopher Magnuson, Erica Magnuson, Lyndsi Magnuson, Amanda Hamlin, Jessica Hamlin, Anna Magnuson, Cassandra Hamlin, Michelle Magnuson, Terrance Magnuson; 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Joan Mosher.
The family would like to thank the staff at 4000 Valley Square for all of their help over the last few years. Any memorials may be to the charity of your choice.
