Steven Robert Martin

To watch a recording of the service, please use the link: https://youtu.be/VsP07GY0T_4 Steven Robert Martin, 62, of Emerado, North Dakota, passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2022, at Northwood Deaconess Hospital. Steve was born on May 13, 1960 to Robert and Mabel (Marshall) Martin in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Steve attended school through 8th grade in Emerado and later graduated from Larimore High School with the Class of 1978. In high school, Steve was active in wrestling, Future Farmers of America and 4-H. Following high school, Steve attended Area Vo-Tech Institute in East Grand Forks. He went on to pursue a career in farming and ranching, and later working at Simplot in Grand Forks. On February 22, 1992, Steve was united in marriage to Barbara O’Connell in Grand Forks. The couple lived in Emerado where they began their family and continued ranching. Steve began his transportation career working for the Emerado Public School District for 10 years as a Bus Driver, and then for UND Transportation Services for 9 years. Steve was a member of the Forks Rifle Club in Emerado, where he served as Chief Instructor and was inducted into the North Dakota Shooting Sports Association Hall of Fame for his coaching of youth shooting for over 20 years. Steve was also a life member of the Emerado Presbyterian Church and an active 4-H volunteer leader. Steve enjoyed hunting, coaching, shooting, westerns, card games (especially pinochle), gardening and most of all spending time with his family. Survivors include, his wife, Barb of Emerado; daughter, Becky Martin (Emerado); son, Joe (Natalie, and future granddaughter) Martin (Grand Forks); sister, Sally (Marlin) Jacobson (Grand Forks); brother, Lee Martin (Grand Forks); sisters-in-law Jan Martin (Grand Forks), Helga Martin Coleman (Apache Junction, AZ), Wanda Martin (Grand Forks), Erin (Ken) Dionne (East Grand Forks, MN), and Patty (Austin) McCracken (Davenport, IA); brothers-in-law, Dan (Barb) O’Connell (Williams, MN), Willie (Cassie Scheving) O’Connell (Grand Forks); father-in-law, Tom O’Connell (Grand Forks); and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Danny and Rodney Martin; and mother-in-law Peggy O’Connell.
