Shirley A. Maides, 82, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Valley Senior Living – Woodside Village.
Shirley Ann Diemert, the daughter of Oscar and Florence (Lillico) Diemert, was born at Walhalla, North Dakota on June 30, 1937. Shirley was raised and educated at Walhalla, graduating from Walhalla High School. She later attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks. Shirley married Fred Maides on December 17, 1957 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. They made their home in Grand Forks following their marriage.
Shirley enjoyed music, doing upholstery work, puzzles and bird watching. She enjoyed working side by side on projects with Fred.
She is survived by her husband, Fred, Grand Forks; three children, Darrin Maides, Grand Forks, Garlynn (Marty) Helmoski, Grand Forks, and Jim (Crista) Maides, Grand Forks AFB, grandchildren, Ashley Helmoski, Madison Maides, Christopher Helmoski, and step-granddaughter, Haley Parker; two sisters, Alverna “Pete” Anderson, Bottineau, ND, and Leona “Billie” Hejlik, Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Joann Maides, El Cajon, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert; and a sister “Bunny”.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 715 24th Ave South, Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church.
