Shirley Kvidt

Shirley A. Kvidt 85, Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Altru Hospital.

Shirley Ann Neustel, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Tranholt) Neustel, was born November 22, 1932 in Mahnomen, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Shirley excelled in school and achieved A student status; graduating from Mahnomen High School in 1950.  She completed one semester of college, before becoming engaged.

Shirley was united in marriage to Jerome M. Kvidt on June 27, 1953 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.  They made their home in a castle at Sittington Hall, England.  During Jerome’s service in the US Air Force, they lived in Minneapolis, Colorado Springs, Lorton, VA, Wheeler AFB, HI, and finally Grand Forks.  Shirley was a member of Sons of Norway and an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the Quilters Group, Thursday Mornings for Moms, and many other volunteer opportunities.  After moving to Grand Forks, Shirley was employed by the Public Schools as a Para Professional working with special needs children.  She loved working with all children, but especially those who needed her most.  Shirley enjoyed being a gracious hostess and always welcomed family and friends to their home and cabin at South Twin Lake, MN.

Shirley is survived by her children, Sherry (Alan) Coxe, Homosassa, FL; David (Pam) Kvidt, Grand Forks; and Brian (Rhonda) Kvidt, Thompson, ND;  daughter-in-law, Lynn Kvidt, Grand Forks;  9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren;  sisters, Gloria (Everett) Darco, Carol Agnew, and Dianne (Mike) Liebl, all of Mahnomen, MN;  several nieces and nephews. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alice Neustel; her husband, Jerome Kvidt; her eldest son, Jerome “Dewey” Kvidt; and brother-in law, Cameron Agnew. 

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church.  Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.  Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church Quilters Group.
