Sandra Lee Jensen Wogaman, 77, of East Grand Forks, MN, died at home surrounded by love on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
An artist her whole life, Sandy was born on March 8, 1944, the first child of Irving James and Doris Mae Ostrander Jensen, in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised and educated in Columbia Heights and Mankato, MN, and Jamestown, ND, where she graduated from Jamestown High School in 1962.
She came to Grand Forks to attend University of North Dakota in 1962 and worked at Westward Ho Restaurant as a waitress. There she met her husband, George, whom she married on April 10, 1965. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UND in 1966 and taught fifth grade at Crestwood Elementary School in East Grand Forks for several years.
Sandy spent the next number of years raising her family. She owned and operated Rosemaling and Crafts in Grand Forks with her artistic and business partner Diane Edwards, teaching Norwegian folk art. She created paintings, jewelry, greeting cards, and other creative works. She made even small creations into works of art, including her very last works, printed in the last week of her life. In her 40s, Sandy went back to UND to earn a second Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with honors in visual arts.
Sandy was a woman of strong Christian faith, open-minded and open-hearted to people of all backgrounds. She lived, fought, and coped with anxiety and depression for 50 years. Her favorite expression was “Uff da.” She will be remembered for her courage, honesty, humor, and extraordinary loving nature. Everything and everyone she touched became a work of art.
She is survived her children, Jennifer (Troy) Marsh, of Thompson, ND, and the Rev. Christopher Wogaman (Donielle Cotton), Homewood, IL; grandchildren Jeremy and Nicolas Marsh; brother James (Debbie) Jensen, Mesa, AZ; nephew, Chad (Jennifer) Jensen of Castle Rock, CO; great niece, Jordan (Christian) Danyow; great-grandnephew, Archer Scott Danyow; cousins Diane Racette, Holly Herland, and Robert Herland; Sister-in-Love Crystal Jensen (Mike Kelly); and many close and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; nephew Scott Jensen; and cousin Joyanne Peterson.
