Sandra Mae Wesolowski, 75, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Sandy was born June 25, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN, to Gordon and Mildred (Maude) Muir.  She grew up in Johnstown, ND and attended school in Johnstown, Gilby and Midway Public School, Inkster, ND. Sandy graduated with a degree from Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND.

Mom spent her 20’s refereeing her five children and as a reward was able to relax and enjoy her grandchildren, great grandchildren and grand pets.  Gramma Sandy found joy in the time spent spoiling them with Widman’s Chippers, all sorts of gifts, big hugs and mostly love.

Sandy worked hard all of her life, from tending bar at her parents’ business, the Johnstown Store & Bar, the Grand Forks County Auditor’s Office, Children’s Home Society in St. Paul and then happily retiring from Target several years ago.

When she wasn’t working she enjoyed traveling, road-tripping adventures, reading and antique shops.

She loved fresh flowers of all kinds, her favorites being lilacs in the springtime and carnations for her house.  She lovingly displayed the flowers she received as gifts and would always be sure to remark, “Did you see the pretty flowers I got?”

She also enjoyed going to the farmers market for garden peas and kohlrabi.

Mom had a cozy home and surrounded herself with collectibles she loved, including owls, teapots, lighthouses, spoons from all her travels, and anything red, white & blue.

In recent years, despite her many health challenges, Sandy was very independent and had an adventurous spirit.  She would hop in her car and set out for daytrip adventures.  Her favorite destinations were to the North Dakota and Minnesota State Parks.  She spent many of her weekends checking them off the list.  When you would call or text to check in on her, she would say “Oh, I was at the Pembina Gorge yesterday!”

Sandy is survived by her daughters, Lisa (John) Meade, Kimberley (Russell) Pastir, Rhonda (William) Kubousek and Spring Bakke (Shannon Straight), and son, Ron (Sherry) Wesolowski, sister Randy (Walt) Chmiel, brothers Gary Muir, and Gordy (Kim) Muir along with eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Jace, Charly, Atlanta, Christian, Megan and Maddie and seven great grandchildren Kaleb, Avery, Renna, Olivia, Isaiah, Cooper and Casey.  Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Austin Bakke.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Altru, especially the dialysis unit and ICU, for taking care of our Mom.  She was very thankful for your care.

There will be a public visitation, Wednesday, August 25 from 5-7 pm with a service at 7pm at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND.  There will be a private family celebration the following day.
