A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6th at Calvary Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Ruth was born on August 11, 1932, in Denver, Iowa to John and Thelma (Heidemann) Wedemeier. She graduated from Denver, Iowa High School in 1949. After she met Barney, they worked together at the Grand Forks Herald, later retiring from the workforce at the UND Press. She met Donald ‘Barney’ Barnes and they wed in Denver, Iowa June 4th, 1951 at United Church of Christ. After Barney discharged from the Army, they moved to Minocqua, WI settling in Grand Forks, ND in March of 1965. Ruth was an active member at Calvary Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She had a love of the outdoors where she enjoyed fishing and hunting. Ruth kept busy with arts and crafts and was an avid shopper. Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Duane) Barnes Moulds; sister, Evon Wedemeier of Raymond, IA; sister-in-law, Lorna (Roland) Wedemeier of Hudson, IA; three grandsons, Richard (Jenny) Barnes of Grands Forks, ND, Matthew Wedemeier of Dike, IA, Eric Barnes-Olson, Grand Forks, ND; three granddaughters, Jaime Barnes, Elizabeth (Dustin) Erickson both from Grand Forks, ND; Erin Barnes-Olson, Glenwood Springs, CO. Three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Luke and Casey Moulds of Fisher, MN; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hensrud, Blaine Barnes, Bristol Barnes all of Grand Forks, ND, Hallie Geilau, Adlee Anderson of Iowa; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Iowa. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Donald ‘Barney’ Barnes; daughter, Debra Barnes (Ericson); son, James Barnes; brother, Roland Wedemeier; sisters, Catherine and Grace Foelske.
