Roy Richardson, 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of October 1, 2020. He was a caring and beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
Roy was born on May 7, 1961 in Topeka, KS to Gary Richardson and Joan Reiter. He graduated from Topeka West in 1979. From there, he went on to serve four years in the Air Force from 1983 to 1987, his service taking him to Germany. While in Germany he was able to travel to several European countries when he wasn’t on duty. He returned to his family in Kansas following an honorable discharge including several medals for excellent service.
Roy’s military service instilled a character that would last a lifetime. A true embodiment of a military man, he was someone who could always be counted on, even in times it may have been inconvenient to him. He never cut corners and if it needed to be done, he got done. And once it was done, then it was time for fun, and he didn’t hold back on that either. He had a great sense of humor and his energy was contagious, everybody loved spending time with him and all that knew him have only good things to say.
Roy had many passions and hobbies. None more so than his passion for riding. His Harley Davidson Road King was one of his prized possessions, and if the sun was out, you could find him on the road. He also enjoyed photography, home brewing and his ham radio. He could fix or build anything. He liked fixing up old cars and bikes, and he loved building and flying remote control airplanes.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Gary Richardson, and his stepfather James Reiter. He leaves memories to be cherished by his two sons, Ryan Richardson, Grand Forks, ND and Conner Richardson, Crookston, MN; mother, Joan Reiter, Topeka, KS; sister Angela (Greg) Thomas, Las Vegas, NV; sister Lisa (Rick) Schwartz, Topeka, KS; and two nephews Vince and Joe Kelly
Roy loved nothing more than sharing a laugh with family and friends, and he will be missed by many.
