Ronald H. Cady, 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Altru Hospital in Grand
Forks, ND.

Ronald (Ron) was born on May 15, 1937, in Hatton, ND, the son of Howard Cady and Florence
(Sletten) Cady. He grew up in Hatton, ND and attended Hatton High School. During his high
school years he was a star basketball player and a member of the choir. He joined the United
States Navy after graduation and proudly served his country from 1957-1961. He also sang at
Carnegie Hall with the Navy choir. He had an absolutely amazing voice.

Ronald married Marlys Johnson in 1962 and to this union their daughter, Tamara, was born.
Ron and Marlys were divorced in 1971 and Ron married Gloria (Larson-Windahl) in February of
1976. Gloria’s son, Marc, and Ron’s daughter, Tami, became a family of four until Ron and
Gloria’s daughter, Jamie, was born in 1976.

Ron always had a sparkle in his eye and a joke or two up his sleeve. He entertained adults and
children alike with his stories from his childhood and he was always quick witted. Ron was never
silent. He was always singing (loudly and exuberantly) while he waited for Gloria to get her hair
done. He also whistled wherever he went and it didn’t matter what tune it was! Ron was also an
avid and talented bowler and he acquired many trophies during his time with his bowling league.

Ron ADORED his six grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them in their various activities,
especially musicals and hockey. He was fiercely protective, loyal and active in all of their lives.
He even provided “Papa Daycare” for his grandchildren in Grand Forks. Ron filled their lives
with stories and laughter and he always wore a smile when they were around.
Our lives will never be the same. Dad/Grandpa was truly one of a kind. There is a void in our
lives that will never be filled. However, we know that he will live on in our hearts and our actions
for many years to come. This world will always know Ron Cady.

Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria and their children Tami, (Tom) Hopp of St. Paul
Park, MN , Marc (Paige) Windahl of Moorhead, MN and Jamie (Carol) Toutenhoofd of Grand
Forks. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Jacob and Justin Hopp, Cooper
Windahl and Jace, Luke and Drew Toutenhoofd. He was preceded in death by his mother
Florence, mother in law Helen Larson, father in law Arthur Larson, sister in law Judy Crommett,
brother in law Richard LaBine and nephew Kelly James Heyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Thank you to everyone for loving our Dad.
