Robyn A. DeGroot, 55, Grand Forks, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 10, 2024, in Altru Hospital.
Robyn was born July 20, 1968, in Livingston, NJ, the daughter of Robert and Glendora (Boling) DeGroot. She was raised and educated in Fair Lawn, NJ and graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 1986. After graduation, Robyn attended The Berkeley School, and continued her education at Bergan Community College.
Robyn lived and worked in northern New Jersey before moving with her family to Omaha, Nebraska where she was employed with Mutual of Omaha. When her family decided to move up to Grand Forks, ND, she was eager to make the move with them. She started her career with Vaaler Insurance shortly after she arrived in North Dakota, and remained employed there as an Account Manager until her passing.
Family was everything to Robyn and she devoted herself to her loved ones. Since her family unit was small, she considered her closest friends her family as well. She was always the nurturer - caring and gentle, loving and kind. Robyn exemplified what it means to be altruistic, as she was always giving without expecting anything in return. She never hesitated to offer assistance and could often recognize what needed to be done and suggest a solution before you even realized there was an issue.
Robyn was always up for an adventure, going on many car trips with her friends or family, sometimes without a destination in mind just to see what she might encounter on her travels. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, and making beautifully elaborate cards to send out for every occasion. She was most recently putting her crafting talents to work helping with the preparations for her oldest nephew’s upcoming graduation.
Robyn loved her family and was especially proud of her nephews. She supported them in all of their activities, cheering them on from the sidelines at their many basketball games, baseball games, soccer games, and track meets. She attended all of their school band concerts, and every other important school function. She treasured every moment she spent with them, and they with her.
Survivors include her sister, Renee Carlson and brother-in-law Jason Carlson, East Grand Forks, MN; and her nephews, Brayden and Gavin Carlson.
Robyn was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Glendora DeGroot, and by a brother, Robb.
Robyn’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. How fortunate and blessed are we all to have known her.
