Robert D. Steen, 87, Grand Forks, died Thursday, March 17, 2022 in Valley Senior Living Wheatland Terrace.  

Robert Duane Steen the son of Thelma and Melvin Steen was born in Minot on February 16, 1935.  He was raised and educated in Crosby, ND, graduating from Crosby High School in 1953. He married Kathryn Elaine Kremer on June 16, 1955 in Minot, ND.  They lived in Minot, ND until moving to Grand Forks in 1980.  During his working career he was employed by TBA, Home of Economy, and Tractor Supply.  Robert did retail merchandising in his retirement.

He loved watching all sports especially both boys and girls basketball for all of the local high schools and UND, and served as a referee for numerous Class A & B basketball and football games.  One of his favorite memories was refereeing a basketball game between Rugby and Williston, featuring Paul Presthus from Rugby and Phil Jackson from Williston.

Robert is survived by his children, Douglas Steen (Ann), Eden Prairie, MN, Susan Hill (Mike), Fargo, ND, Gerald Steen (Melinda), Fargo, ND, Patricia Steen, Los Angeles, CA, and Cheryl Miller (Troy), West Fargo, ND;  11 grandchildren, Matthew Steen, Jillian Steen, Derek Hill (Tina), Aaron Hill (Brianne), Chelsey Niklas (Matthew), Justin Steen, Jared Steen (Maggie), Zachary Remmick (Katy), Cody Remmick, Jake Miller (Rachel), Lucas Miller;  5 great-grandchildren, Graham Hill, Bennett Hill, Evelyn Hill, Tori Hill, and Norah Steen. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn and his parents.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
