Robert James Reinertson, passed away in his home on August 9, 2019, in Grand Forks, ND. He was 95 years old.
Bob was born May 30, 1924 in Fargo, ND, the third child of Joseph Reinertson and Inger (Hasle) Reinertson.
He spent his first 7 years in Hurdsfield, ND; Bowdon, ND; and Aberdeen, SD. In 1932, his family moved to Grand Forks, where he lived for 85 years.
Bob attended Wilder, Roosevelt, South Junior, and Central High School, graduating in May of 1942. He spent the summer of 1942, living with his brother Joe, in Washington, DC, working at the Smithsonian. In the fall of 1942, he attended UND for one semester, before being drafted in World War II, on March 24, 1943, at the age of 18. He served his country with the 1117th Engineer Combat Group in Europe and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945 at the age of 21.
He returned to UND in January of 1946, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business, and worked in the insurance and tax preparation field. He later obtained a Master’s in Education and was an elementary school teacher in the Grand Forks Public School district. He was very active in farm management throughout his life, until his death.
He married Georgene Swanson, of Grafton, ND on December 13, 1953, in Grand Forks. They were married for 50 years. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2003.
Bob enjoyed writing children’s stories, reading, traveling, gardening, watching old movies, and he was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. He was a lifelong member of United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.
He is survived by his sons: Robert (Sally Scinto-Reinertson) Reinertson of Wausau, WI; John (Janice) Reinertson of Reading, PA. Daughters; Mary (Tom) Sand of Grand Forks, ND; and Susan Reinertson of Alexandria, VA. Five grandchildren: Paul (Jessica) Reinertson of Wausau, WI; Samuel Reinertson of Lawrenceville, GA; Matthew Reinertson of Baltimore, MD; Emily Reinertson of Reading, PA; and Taylor Sand of Grand Forks, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgene; his son-in-law Michael Musella; his parents; his brother Joseph Reinertson; and his sister Dorothy Gray.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be at 10:00 am before the service.
Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park North in Grand Forks.
The family suggests that memorials be made to United Lutheran Church.
