Robert A. McGoven, 80, formerly of Grand Forks, died Thursday, July 9, 2020 in Aneta Parkview Health Center.
Robert Ardell McGoven, the son of Ardell and Margaret (Waxvick) McGoven was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on September 2, 1939. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks, He served in the US Marine Corps from January 7, 1959 until December 21, 1962. He was a longtime owner of the Broken Drum in Grand Forks. Robert was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks.
He enjoyed going to the races and watching NASCAR. From 1955-1962 he helped in maintaining the Grand Forks Speedway for his father. Robert enjoyed Minnesota lakes and fishing there with his brothers. He cherished time spent with family and his friends.
He married Judith Dencker in 1964. He later married Janice Hilde in 1983.
Survivors include: his wife, Janice, Aneta, ND; children, Craig, Grand Forks, ND, Casey, Park River, ND, and Kristy McGoven Stewart, Fargo, ND 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Teresa) McGoven, Buckeye, AZ; sisters, Vicky (Odie) Knight and Tammie Grant and her daughter, Savanna, all in Colorado; step-children, Lisa Link, Dena Holkesvig (Jeff), Mona Bowles, “Bubba” (Deb) Bowles, Lori Anderson; 14 step-grandchildren; 22 step great grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larry McGoven, and Gary McGoven.
He had a very witty sense of humor and loved to dish it out and was quite the jokester as well. He loved everyone of his family, friends, bar patrons and employees.
Graveside Memorial Services with military honors will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 in Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks. A reception at the Broken Drum will follow the graveside service.
