ROBERT A. SYVERSON
Robert (Bob) A. Syverson, age 74 of Grand Forks, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in the Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be at Westfield Silent Hill Cemetery rural Sharon, ND.
Robert Allen Syverson, a son of Arnold and Ruth (Hitland) Syverson, was born on February 16, 1945 at Sharon, ND. He attended school in Sharon until the family moved to Cooperstown, ND. Bob graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1963. He attended college at NDSU and Concordia College. In 1969 he was married to Diane Dickhaus. They had two sons, Brian John and Chad Robert. Bob graduated from Jamestown College in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree. In 1988 Bob graduated from NDSU with a Master’s Degree in Education. Bob worked for David and Carolyn Lunde all through High school and college on their farm in Cooperstown.
He worked at the Anne Carlson School prior to his graduation from Jamestown College. From 1972 to 1975 he was the first director of the Deaf Blind Program at the Developmental Canter in Grafton, ND. Bob worked at the ND School for the Blind from 1975 to 1990. He was a disability advocate working through the State of North Dakota for 20 years.
He is survived by his son, Brian (Jennifer) Syverson of Manvel; grandchildren, Dylan and Brooklyn; sisters, Marlys (Gary) Ellefson and Karen Syverson both of Fargo; a nephew and a niece and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruth Syverson; a son, Chad Syverson; a uncle, Rueben Syerson and a brother in law, Gary Ellefson.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the North Dakota School for the Blind Foundation, 500 Stanford Road, Grand Forks, ND 58203.
