Robert "Bob" Montgomery

Robert “Bob” Allen Montgomery, 70, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

 He was born March 31, 1951 in Grand Forks, the son of Lloyd and Frances (Ferguson) Montgomery. He was raised and educated in Inkster, ND. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Marines at age 17 and was accepted at the age of 18, he went on to serve in Vietnam. He proudly served his country from 1969 – 1971. Robert worked in the truck service industry for most of his career including owning Bob’s Service Center. He spent more than 20 years as a Farm Manager for Hoverson Farms in Larimore, North Dakota.  

 Robert is known for his love of family, farming, and playing pinochle. He was one of the most generous people you would ever meet. He would do anything for anybody – especially his family. Robert had many hobbies and varied interests; the most well known to those who knew him were his love of horses, pigs, John Deere, old western movies, classic country music, and being around his nieces and nephews. Most days Robert could be found tinkering in his shop with a Mt. Dew at his side.

 Robert married Lynette Mae Moen on December 16, 1972 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Manvel, ND. She survives along with his children, Travis (Nicky) Montgomery and Jenny (Richard) Thompson; as proud as Robert was of his children, he delighted in his grandchildren, Spencer and Rylie Thompson, Jasmine Goyette-Thompson, Cooper and Maddie Montgomery. He is also survived by his sister Sharon Thompson. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ike; and sister, BernaDene (Tinky) Iverson .

 Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2021 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery of Grand Forks. Military honors will be conducted by the U. S. Marines and the Manvel American Legion Post #299.
