Robert "Bob" Krom

August 4, 1946 — January 27, 2021

Robert “Bob” Krom, 74, Manvel, ND, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Robert Allen Krom was born August 4, 1946 in Langdon, ND, the son of Ralph and Edna (Seeley) Krom. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks. As a young man, Bob worked in several fields, until he began a lengthy and passionate career as an auto body repairman. He worked at Wilcox and Malm, Dunham’s Body Shop, and Grand Forks Collision Center. Bob also owned and operated his own body shop at his home in Manvel. His motto was “I take the time to make it shine.”

Bob married the love of his life, Denise DeGagne, on August 23, 1986. They built a beautiful home together in Manvel, where they have lived for 33 years. He built and customized his shops to fulfill his passion for working on cars.

Bob enjoyed many things, including building and restoring hot rods to make them his own. He enjoyed putting his own personal touch on them and building them to be unique. A few of his favorites were his black ‘72 chopped Chevy pickup, his black ‘32 Ford hot rod, his chopped GMC pickup, and his pride and joy, an orange ‘68 Chevy pickup that he built from the ground up. He enjoyed repurposing things and invented many tools to help him in his shops. He participated in countless car shows throughout the years. One of his favorites was the Back to the 50’s Car Show in Saint Paul where he spent 25 years of fun together with family and friends. Bob enjoyed family vacations, camping in the Scamp (or as we call it, “Scamping”), going to swap meets, playing cards, having huge bonfires, driving the golf cart around with Denise and their dog Lillee, working outdoors at his home, and spending time with friends and family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Denise Krom, Manvel, ND; his children, Kristine (Nick) Ohman, West Fargo, ND, John (Debbie) Brodeur, Cass Lake, MN, Kerry Brodeur, Colorado Springs, CO, Vicki Armstrong, and Tara Skari; his brother, Ken (Sandy) Krom, Grand Forks, ND; his grandchildren, Sara, Hana, & Crag Brodeur, Karley & Jordan Brodeur, and Kaden Betteen; his great grandchild, Haelan; and his nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
