Richard Walsh

Richard “Dick” Dale Walsh, age 81, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on March 24, 2020 with his wife  by his side at Valley Senior Living on 42nd St. .

Dick was born July 20, 1938 to Vernon John Martin Walsh and Ethel Gladys Lundy in Grand Forks, ND. He grew up on the family farm in Niagara, ND and attended a one-room country schoolhouse until he began 8th grade at Fordville High School where he graduated in 1956. Following graduation from high school, Dick immediately enlisted in the Navy with three of his fellow graduates: Bernard Skibicki, Clare Robertson and Ellis Vorachek. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1959. He attended UND before starting his business, Dick Walsh Construction.

In 1960, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann Shannon. Together they raised their four children: Jodi (Scott) Boettner, Shane, Tanya (David) Coyne and Bryce (Shifra Harris).

Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman, a cutthroat pinochle player and he loved spending time with his family. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great granddaughters.

He was past president and member of the Grand Forks Builders and Traders Association, a member of the Forx Home Builders Association, the Lions Club and the Elks Club.

Dick was raised in the Lutheran faith at Elk Valley Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He and Bev raised their family and were members for over 50 years at Sharon Lutheran Church here in Grand Forks. Over the years, he was a member of multiple boards at Sharon and was instrumental in organizing volunteers and installing the concrete parking lot at the church.

Dick is survived by his wife, Beverly; his four children; his brothers,  Robert (Kathy) Walsh of Bismarck, Randy Walsh of Niagara; his grandchildren, Brianne (Chad) Rasmussen, Eric (Khonsavanh) Boettner, Jordan Coyne, Jackson Coyne, Evan Walsh; his great granddaughters, Eleanor Boettner, Hadley Rasmussen; and his niece, Kris Kratochvil and nephew Lon (Jane) Kratochvil.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Irene Walsh, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Bill Kratochvil and brother, Roger Walsh.

A private family service will be held at Amundson Funeral Home with Pastor Lynn Ronsberg from Sharon Lutheran Church presiding on Saturday, March 28.  Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery North.   Online guestbook and video tribute are available at www.amundsonfuneralhome.com.
