Richard A. Bratvold, 62, Grand Forks, ND, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, January 18, 2020.
Richard was born in Grand Forks, ND to Richard and Margaret (Murphy) Bratvold on December 14, 1957. After the death of his father, his mother married Richard Tillman who raised Richard as his own.
Richard attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1976. He married Jacalyn Thompson on July 14, 1990. They lived in Grand Forks and celebrated almost 30 years of marriage together.
Richard was a longtime carpenter in Grand Forks, working for Peterson Construction and most recently for Don’s ABC Seamless.
He enjoyed many years of softball and basketball, watching Sioux hockey and making Sioux decorations. His favorite activity was being with his family, especially his grandson, Cobi.
Richard’s surviving family includes, his wife Jacalyn, Grand Forks; children, Carly Miller (Ryan), Grand Forks, Kaitlin Bratvold, Grand Forks, Nichole Bratvold, Phoenix, AZ and Dallas (Michelle) Bratvold, Phoenix, AZ; 9 grandchildren , Cobi, Dakotah, Richard, Tristan, Addison, Jose, Allison, Valentin, Jackson, and one expected soon; honorary daughter, Donna (Grant) Hunter; brothers, Steven (Janice) Bratvold, Grand Forks, Brian Bratvold, San Bernadino, CA, and Doug Tillman, Grand Forks ; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Gwen Menke of Fargo ND, Carolyn Faehn(Scott) of Fargo ND, Marilyn Sheehan of Fargo ND and Les Thompson of Grand Forks .
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, and father-in-law; a brother, William Tillman; two grandchildren, Dylan and Morgan.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. To honor Richard, all are invited to wear UND attire to the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Richard’s family in care of Carly Miller.
