Richard Edward John Canfield was born on July 21, 1975, to Marilyn Virginia Canfield and Richard Earl Canfield in Glasgow Montana. He was the fourth of four children-older sisters, Tami, and Candy, along with older brother Robert. Richard (AKA Rick) attended school in Thief River Falls, MN and Grand Forks, ND.
His younger years were spent in northern Minnesota with the rest of his siblings on a little farm near Newfolden. Rick was an active kid trying to ride calves, milk goats, and chase chickens. In fact, he tried incubating their eggs with a heat lamp that sent the family barn up in a blaze.
When Rick was 6, he experienced a life changing event. His foot was run over by a riding lawnmower that took half his foot. With a lengthy rehab and multiple surgeries, he was back to his old farm-boy ways. He always managed to find the time to mess with and pull pranks on his siblings!
With the divorce of his parents in 1981, the family moved down the road to Thief River Falls. Rick kept to his active ways riding minibikes, building tree forts, and running with the pack of kids in the neighborhood. His middle and high school years were spent in Grand Forks, ND.
On February 10th, 1995, he was united in marriage to Florence Pelletier. Together they had two children, Cody Canfield, and Richie Anderson.
Rick worked various jobs throughout his life. His longest tenure was with Strata Concrete, but his favorite work was as a dispatcher with Altendorf Trucking, and S&S Transport. He also had some off season work with Tel Pro, doing snow removal and using his size as a bouncer at some of the favorite local watering holes.
Rick’s second marriage was to Jackie Jensen in March of 2009. With this union they added Jackie’s daughter, Morgen Jensen, to the family mix.
In recent years, he continued to enjoy his love for the outdoors, A lot of days were spent fishing the several lakes and rivers in the area and going camping. His favorite Friday nights were spent at the Grand Forks Speedway enjoying the races, and beers with his friends and son Cody. Rick was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. His common wardrobe was sporting their hats and gear. Rick also enjoyed karaoke night, where he loved singing a Garth Brooks cover.
The one thing that took precedence in Rick's life was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking for his family and hosting family nights at his house. He knew how to grill a steak to perfection.
Richard Canfield passed away on April 9th, 2022, at the age of 46 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
May he always be remembered by his love he had for others. He was a Dreamer. He was a father, a son, a brother, and most of all a true friend. As it is, may time fill the void in our hearts.
