Randi Allen Rystad, 67, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND.
Randi was born on February 16, 1957 in Red Wing, MN to Robert and Gloria (Vikesland) Rystad. He was second oldest of four children.
Randi was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Bloomington, MN, where he was all state in soccer and baseball. He also had the honor of playing trumpet in his high school marching band in front of President Ford for his inaugral parade. Later, Randi attended the University of North Dakota, where he received a Bachelors Degree of Arts in education.
Randi married the love of his life, Marge Steffen of Crookston, MN on August 11th, 1984 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND. From this union, they had two children, Amanda and Sam. As a family, they loved spending their summer weekends at the Rystad family cabin on Golden Lake.
Randi had a witty, tongue in cheek sense of humor that could crack up the whole room. He was a lover of all sports, where he was an avid Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Minnesota Vikings fan. Randi was a jack of all trades and an excellent woodworker. He loved making furniture for his family, which are still cherished to this day. He had a love for music and frequently enjoyed attending the Grand Forks blues festivals, where he could be found rocking one of his signature Hawaiian shirts. Randi loved snacking and could often be found snacking on Fritos and bean dip and sipping on Monster energy drinks.
Randi survived by his children, Amanda (Trevor) Uhlir, and Sam Rystad; sisters, Tami (Mike) Moran and Tonja (Adam) Kemp; grandchildren, Rylan, Paisley, and Aria and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick.
Randi’s playful exaggerations and clever, quick witted sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
