Randy Sorum, 64, Grand Forks, passed away November 17, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.
Randy was born in Grand Forks, the son of Ronald and Helen Sorum. He grew up in Grand Forks and attended Red River High School.
Randy spent his career working in Auto Parts. His first job in high school was working for Dunlevy Oil. He then worked for Rydell’s, General Auto, then transitioned to Western Auto to Carquest to Advanced Auto, and finally with Auto Value. He was excellent at his job and was asked to help set up stores as far away as California. His clients would follow him from store to store, and he made many friendships with car dealerships in Grand Forks.
Randy started golfing and bowling in grade school and continued into adulthood. He also would go fishing at Lake of the Woods, and the Great Lakes. He enjoyed snowmobiling and meeting up with friends after work on Fridays to go for rides to the surrounding towns.
Randy’s true love was for motorcycles, which started as a child riding a mini-bike behind K-Mart and Sears. He bought his first Harley Sportster before his 21st birthday. Randy had multiple bikes over the years but loved his Tri-glides the best. Some of his favorite rides were the day trips to Itasca State Park and even Hibbing for a hot turkey dinner! Randy’s favorite rides where to the Black Hills in South Dakota for “Wild Bill Days” in Deadwood and surrounding areas.
Randy is survived by his sister Karen Waltz and her husband Randy of Brookings, SD, and his nephew Hank Waldron of Thompson, ND.
Randy’s family would like to give a special shout out to the “620” guys, Randy’s Southgate friends, Facebook friends, and the many riders he rode with over the years.
