Peter A. Yon

Peter Anthony Yon, Grand Forks and formerly of Forest River, ND, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 in Altru Hospital at the age 85. 

 Peter was born March 6, 1939 in Grand Forks, the son of Walter and Burdell (Swensrud) Yon. He was raised and educated in Forest River and began his career as a farmer at a young age. Peter married the love of his life, Margaret Armbrust on September 4, 1964 in Gilby, North Dakota. They lived, loved and farmed near Forest River for many years. Peter and Margaret raised four children during their nearly 32 years of marriage. When Margaret passed away September 2, 1996, Peter took on the role of Mother and Father, Grandma and Grandpa. His children and grandchildren were everything to him. Peter enjoyed his time on the farm, and was happy to welcome family and friends any time for a cup of coffee and a game of cards. Peter retired in 2007 and moved to Grand Forks.

 Peter loved a good prank and telling jokes. The mischievous twinkle in his eyes and his laugh said it all. He loved spending time with friends and family, golfing, and playing endless games of cards, especially pinochle. Peter's friends meant a lot to him and he enjoyed going to Perkins for pancakes, coffee and conversation. The employees at Perkins treated him like family and he loved them right back.

 Peter's survivors include his children, Kevin (Pam) Yon, Gilby, ND, Roxanne (Jeff) Schmitz, Mekinock, ND, Kim (Lyle) Gapp, Fisher, MN, and Robyn (Nancy) Yon, Thompson, ND; grandchildren Nicole (Dustin), Nathan, Nick (Ellie), Kyle, April, Nadine, Paul (Sophie), Sam (Avery), Mike, Jackson, Joshua, Charlie and Vaya; great grandchild, Bjorn Schmitz; siblings Lillian (Graydon) Pladson, Marlene (Dale) Korynta, Tom (Vivian) Yon, and Bonnie Carroll. Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret Yon, three brothers in law and one sister in law.

 Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 14, 2025 at Hope Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will continue for an hour before the service in the church. Burial will be done at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery of Forest River, ND.
