Paul Dean Nistler, 56, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away in the early morning on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after teaching us how to live life to the fullest while living with colon cancer for more than six years. Through it all, he kept a positive attitude and reminded us often with one of his favorite sayings that “God is good”.
Paul was born on February 23, 1962, in Beach, ND, the first born to Donald and Marie (Susa) Nistler. He grew up in Golva, ND. Following his graduation from Golva High School in 1980, Paul attended Bismarck Junior College and later, the University of North Dakota. After graduating from UND, Paul stayed in Grand Forks, working for a number of area banks and businesses, including First National Bank and Choice Financial, where he was the Vice President of Business/Ag Banking until his passing.
On October 8, 1993, Paul and Barb Bostrom were married. They had four children together, Maggie, Tom, Annie, and Carrie. Paul loved his children dearly and encouraged them in everything they did, whether it be schoolwork, choir, hockey, basketball, volleyball, football, or baseball and softball. Paul was his children’s biggest cheerleader and was proud to be a Thompson Tommie fan. He was passionate about the UND Fighting Sioux and was so happy his 4 kids are or will be UND grads. He loved bringing family and friends to games and was always trying to recruit others to enroll in the school.
Paul is survived by his parents, Donald and Marie; his wife, Barbara; his children, Margaret, Thomas, Anna, and Caroline; his siblings, Thomas (Eileen) Nistler, Upton, WY, Mary Ann (Paul) Freeman, Devils Lake, ND, Patsy (Donald) Maus, Golva, ND, Patrick (Brenda) Nistler, Fargo, ND, Perry (Tammy) Nistler, Golva, ND, Peggy (Randy) Mosset, Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law, Bo Bostrom, Grand Forks, ND, and sister-in-law, Susan Bostrom, Bloomington, MN. He is also survived by dozens of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Paul is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Nistler; his grandparents, Wendell and Margaret Nistler, and Frank and Gertrude Susa; niece Johanna Nistler; and father- and mother-in-law Ray and Shirley Bostrom.
