Grand Forks

Patricia L. McGurk, age 88, passed away on December 3, 2024 at Prairie View.

Patricia was born in Sisseton, South Dakota on October 4, 1936, to Theodore and Celesia (Devine) Fossum. She married Ron McGurk on October 9th, 1956. In 1962, they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where they raised their five children. Patricia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who dedicated her life to those she loved. While raising her children, she worked for several years as a physical therapist assistant at the Valley Memorial Home. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, cooking for the youth group, serving on many committees, and always ready to help. She enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels for many years. Making sure she always made time for people in need.

Pat was an avid hockey fan, supporting her son’s love of hockey over the years; one of her greatest passions was supporting her favorite college hockey team the UND Fighting Sioux! Pat enjoyed cooking, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Maple Lake, soaking up the sun on long boat rides with Ron. Let’s not forget her love for her Bulldogs, Judge, Winnie, Oliver, and Winston.

Patricia is survived by her children, Peggy (John) Sand of Aurora, CO, Tad (Pam) McGurk of Bismarck, ND, Penny McGurk-Jordan of Chula Vista, CA, and Jon (Brenda) McGurk of Wooster, OH; grandchildren, Brian, Katie, Kaylene, Joshua, Patrick, Casey, and Nick; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Holly, Shelden, Emmalee, Liam, Jaxson, Elizabeth, Luke, Parker, Blaire, and Noa; sisters, Marlene Peter, of Morro, Bay, CA, and Pam(Dennis) Cornelius, of Maple Grove MN; sister-in-law, Connie McGurk, of Grand Forks, and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron.; son, Todd; parents, Ted and Celesia; sister, Lois; and son-in-law, Norman.

Pat’s love, kindness, and loyalty will be remembered by many. Mom, we will miss you so much!

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks with Pastor Spencer Homan officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
