Norris Jerome Loiland
Norris Loiland, 89 of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on September 16, 2019 at Valley Senior Living - Woodside Village in Grand Forks surrounded by his family, leaving them to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . Norris Jerome Loiland was born September 10, 1930 in Grand Forks, son of Halvor N. and Thorine (Hofstad) Loiland. He grew up in Thompson, ND, attended school in Walle Township and Central High School In Grand Forks.
Norris served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.
He married Marcella Sannes on March 21, 1955 and together they raised five children. Church life, prayer time and daily devotions were important in their lives. They made their home in Thompson, ND and later retired in Grand Forks.
Norris was a farm laborer for Robert Myron and later Duane Myron of Thompson. He loved his years on the farm and there was no other job he’d rather do. He especially enjoyed the fall and harvest time. Norris’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, attending children’s activities, sprint car racing, and tinkering in the barn. One of his favorite pastimes was coffee time on Friday afternoons with friends and family.
Predeceased by his wife, Marcie, his parents and brothers, Ramon Loiland and Howard Loiland. Survived by his sister, Helen Moen. Children: Gerald (Cheryl) Loiland, Vicki (Charles) Pederson, Linda(Alan) Christy, Jon(Sharon) Loiland, Jeffrey(Nancy) Loiland. Grandchildren: Bradley (Amanda) Loiland, Daniel (Julie) Loiland, Janis (Jason) Whitesock, Brandon (Jessica) Pederson, Dr. Alex (Seren) Pederson, Alicia Loiland, Emily Loiland. Great-grandchildren: Brooklynn Whitesock, Olivia Whitesock, Katie Whitesock, Kaden Loiland, Grady Loiland, Collin Loiland, Andrew Pederson, Henry Pederson, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Norris’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21 at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Grand Forks. Visitation 1pm, followed by funeral service at 2pm. Interment will follow at East Walle Cemetery, Thompson, ND.
The family wishes to thank the exceptional staff at Woodside Village for loving and caring for him during his time there. Memorials suggested to Valley Senior Living-Woodside Village.
