Norman Morris Roeder, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 7th. He was born to Alvin and Elvira Roeder on May 1st, 1927 in rural Thompson, ND.
Norman worked on the family farm with his parents and brothers most of his life, with the exception of the time he spent in the service. Norman served 2 years in the Army and Air Force stationed in Arizona and California. He then worked at Hegstrom’s Office Supply repairing typewriters in Grand Forks for a couple of years Norman played amateur baseball with the Hatton Team. He was active in the Holmes United Methodist Church in Reynolds most of his life and was a member of the Holmes Brotherhood. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it.
He married Jean (Syvertson) Hanson on March 18, 1978. Jean had five children who loved the kind, soft-spoken man with the dry sense of humor right away.
He loved people and was genuinely interested in them. He enjoyed conversations with both people he had known a long time and people he just met.
He loved all animals. When the weather was too cold to be outside, he enjoyed sitting by the kitchen window and watching the birds, squirrels, rabbits, and deer in the yard. He always had a dog. Most of them came from the Circle of Friends Animal Shelter. He supported the organization for many years.
Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings Myron Roeder and Kenneth Roeder and his wife Jean. He will be sadly missed by his step-children: Linda Hanson, Greg (Debbie) Hanson, Laura Hanson, Carla Hanson and Kent (Lynne) Hanson, their children and grandchildren.
