Nicol C. Heinz

July 17, 1942 — February 7, 2019

Nicol Catherine Heinz, 76, of Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Valley Memorial Homes Transitional Care Unit after a brief illness.

Nicol was born on July 17, 1942, the daughter of Clemens and Lorraine Heinz in Lisbon, ND.  She grew up on the family farm near Alice, ND.  Nicol attended school in Alice and moved to Jamestown and Arthur before eventually residing in Grand Forks.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Grand Forks and attended Saturday church services regularly.  She also attended services and gatherings weekly at University Lutheran Church.  Nicol enjoyed the ability to have her own apartment and live independently (with the help of Development Homes Staff).  She attended the Listen Day Program in Grand Forks during the week, enjoyed going out to eat with her longtime friend, Joe, going to church, shopping, attending dances/parties, visits and road trips with family, communication from her pen pals/family and hanging out with her many friends.

Nicol is survived by her brother, Dan (Julie) Heinz, Duluth, MN; Nieces, Hillary Heinz, Duluth, MN, Jackie (Randy) Mann and Julie (Mike) Mann, Eatonville, WA; Nephews, Kirk (Tara) Heinz, Eatonville, WA, Chris (Kimberly) Heinz, Fargo, ND, and Jordan (Becky) Heinz, Burnsville, MN.  She also has six great nephews, four great nieces, two great-great nephews and five great-great nieces.

Nicol is preceded in death by her parents (Clemens and Lorraine Heinz) and her brother (Foster Heinz).

A Celebration of Life gathering honoring Nicol will be held at the Development Homes Community Room (3880 S. Columbia Rd, Grand Forks, ND) on Saturday February 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  A lunch will follow.  Interment will be at the Alice Cemetery this summer.  Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, ND.

Nicol’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Development Homes for their devoted care and love shown to Nicol over the past 26 years.  Many have went above and beyond, extending invitations to Nicol for holidays or special events into their homes.  As we gather to celebrate her life, let’s think of her smile and for all the memories we will always hold.
