Nancy K. Hvinden

 Nancy K. Hvinden, 78, Thompson, ND, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

 Nancy Kay Flatz was born December 28, 1945 in Scranton, ND, the daughter of Howard and Hazel (Soehren) Flatz. She was raised on the family farm near Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1963. Nancy moved to Grand Forks to attend UND. She met Gerald “Gerry” Hvinden and they were married May 31, 1964 in Scranton. They lived in Grand Forks where they raised their family. During that time, Nancy also taught piano lessons and worked at Hugo’s grocery store. Nancy later worked as an optician at Valley Vision Clinic for 30 years until the time of her retirement. Nancy loved horses and dogs. She bred, raised and showed AKC Collie dogs.

 Survivors include her husband, Gerry Hvinden, Thompson, ND; sons, Kirk, Grand Forks and Scott, Thompson, ND; sister-in-law, Ione Flatz, Bowman, ND.

 Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers, Harry, Ronald and David.

A memorial service will be 3:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2024 at East Walle Lutheran Church, rural Thompson, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in East Walle Lutheran Cemetery.
