Melvin “Mel” J. Olson, died on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at his lake home in Lengby, MN, surrounded by his loving family.

Mel was born March 14, 1941 to Henry and Emma Jean Olson in Larimore, ND. Melvin attended school in rural Reynolds, ND and finished his high school diploma at the Crookston Agricultural school in Crookston, MN in 1960.

Shortly after graduating, he met Geraldine Huus, the love of his life. They were married on September 20, 1963 and enjoyed 57 years of together. Melvin and Geraldine raised two children, Kevin and Kim.

Melvin started working as an apprentice electrician in 1962. He worked hard to learn his trade and acquired his Masters' license in 1976. He started Mel's Electric and worked for 33 years, retiring in the fall of October 2009.

Melvin and Geraldine enjoyed spending their summers at their lake place on Island Lake and their winters in Mission, Texas.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine; his son, Kevin (Linda) Olson; daughter, Kimberly (Ron) Bodensteiner; his grandchildren, Brittany (Ace) Brandt, Brandon Olson, Brianna (Nicholas) Rheault, Nicholas Bodensteiner, Joshua Bodensteiner, Alex Bodensteiner; 7 great-grandchildren; his sister, Charlotte Holweger; sister-in-law, Shirley Olson, and foster brother-in-law, Delmer Sund.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steven Olson; brother-in-law, Calvin Holweger and foster sister, Norma Sund.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation from 10-11am prior to the service at Amundsons.

Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND.
