Melvin Daniel (Dan) McGuigan, 95, died March 29, 2019 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND.
Dan McGuigan was born November 10, 1923 to Melvin Bernard and Eleanor (Kindred) McGuigan in Fargo, ND.
He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School. He attended NDSU one year and was inducted into the Army. He received training in armored forces. While waiting assignment, he played trombone in an Army band on the east coast. His 6th Armored Division was deployed to Europe and he participated in the Rhine and Germany campaigns. After the war, he remained in occupied Germany for almost a year. He returned to Fargo and graduated from NDSU in 1949 with a business degree.
On June 7, 1952, he married Fayma K. Strand in Abercrombie, ND. Dan was employed as an Internal Revenue Agent with the IRS. They lived in Fargo and Minot, then spent most of their married life in Grand Forks.
Dan played trombone with many musical organizations throughout his adult years, including the Grand Forks City Band, the Dick King Classic Swing Band (of which he was a founding member), and the American Legion Band of Detroit Lakes with which he enjoyed participating in many state and national conventions.
He enjoyed spending time with relatives and fishing at their lake home in Detroit Lakes.
Dan and Fayma were longtime members of United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks.
Dan is survived by his four children, Nancy (David) Reigle of Cotopaxi, CO, Mark (Teresa) McGuigan of Fargo, Kathy (Vincent) Gangelhoff of Grand Forks, and Dan K. McGuigan of Grand Forks; seven grandchildren, Tashi Reigle, Tara Reigle (Nicholas Taylor), Ryan McGuigan, Rachel McGuigan, Laura McGuigan, Angela (Tyler) York, John Gangelhoff; and sister, Ruth Nord.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fayma; brother, William McGuigan; sister, Anne Griffin; and his parents.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment: later spring at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks.
