Matthew W. Fossum, 54 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Monday, August 5, 2024, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. 

Matt was born on October 15, 1969, the son of Nels and Diane (Davidson) Fossum in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from Red River High School in 1988. Matt enlisted in the United States Navy, serving two tours during the Gulf War. After his honorable discharge in 1992, he returned to Grand Forks and began his career with BNSF working as a Railroad Engineer. 

Matt was united in marriage to Renee Gunderson on April 27, 1996, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. They made their home in Grand Forks and through this union they raised their five children. 

Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecues and sitting by the campfire. He also enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia. His greatest joy in life, were his children and grandchildren. 

Matt is survived by his children, Halie (Paul) Velo, Ashlyn Fossum, Jordyn Fossum and Bodin Fossum; grandchildren, Octavia, Maverick and Syrus Velo; his mother, Diane Fossum; sister, Kimberly (James) Schnellbach; brother Darin (Anita) Fossum; eleven nieces and nephews and his cat, Bosco.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Nels Fossum and son, Hunter Fossum.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home.
