Mary G. Sonterre, 66 of Emerado, North Dakota died Sunday, December 8, 2024, at her home. 

Mary was born on August 4, 1958, the daughter of Merlin and June (Steffen) Powell in Maplewood, Minnesota. She graduated from Tartan High School in Oakdale, Minnesota. Mary married Gary Sonterre on June 30, 1984, in St. Paul, Minn. They moved to Grand Forks and then Emerado, ND, where they raised son Ricky.

Mary worked at Michaels in Grand Forks for years and the BMX track in Grand Forks. She enjoyed spending time at Spike Lake, especially the evening campfires. Mary also enjoyed celebrating holidays with family, including July 4th fireworks. She was an avid fan of racing and the Minnesota Vikings.

Mary is survived by son Ricky and grandson Hunter of Emerado, ND; sisters, Joy Powell, Grantsburg, WI,  Lisa Powell, Crystal, MN, Laura (Todd) Harmon, Owen, WI and Terri Powell, Bayport, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by husband Gary; parents June and Merlin Powell and brother, Stuart Powell, all of Grantsburg, WI, grandparents Tom and Merle Powell and Fred and Cecilia Steffen, also of Wisconsin.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at Amundson Funeral Home.
