Mary Grassel-Baxter

Mary Grassel-Baxter, 82, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on April 11th, 2024. She was born to Victor and Helen Grassel on April 27, 1941, in Grand Forks, ND. Mary graduated from East Grand Forks High School. She went on to marry her first husband, William (Bill) Buck. Together they had three children: Steve, Brad, and Kristi. 

In 1987, Mary was united in marriage to Lieutenant Colonel Willie Baxter, of the US Air Force. The couple traveled a great deal, even living in Italy for some time. They eventually put down roots in Albuquerque, NM, where they resided for over 30 years.

 In 2018, Mary came back to East Grand Forks, to be closer to family. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, puzzles, and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary was a caring, loving, and generous mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed.

Mary is survived by her children, Steve (Tiffany) Buck of Moorhead, MN; Brad Buck of East Grand Forks, MN; and Kristi (Marty) Chromy of Farmington, MN; her sister, Marlys Hollywood of Garden Grove, CA; her seven grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren. 

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Helen Grassel; her husband, Willie Baxter; and her brothers, William Grassel; Richard Grassel; and Thomas Grassel.

 A service will be held at a later date.
